Teaching Workforce contract

In September 2024 adroc were awarded a £15m contract aimed at supporting and enhancing teacher services in the UK

01

Summary

Client: Department For Education

Services provided: Software development

Date: September 2024

adroc is proud to have recently been awarded the Teaching Workforce contract for the Department for Education. We will be delivering a broad range of software projects, building and iterating high-quality services from pre-discovery through to live. Deploying and working in multi-disciplinary blended teams and alongside other suppliers and civil servants. We will be supporting and enhancing essential teacher services, particularly in relation to managing and securing data.

As the primary technical partner to the DfE, adroc takes pride in contributing to the implementation of Government policy across 22 live services under the Teaching Workforce contract, which includes some of the following key areas.

As the demand for qualified teachers increases, adroc is developing a centralised hub for teacher vacancies to encompass all schools across the UK. This will clearly indicate new roles and outline the required qualifications and experience. It will also support overseas recruitment by detailing equivalent qualifications and providing assistance with relocation costs.

One way of supporting retention is through the Government’s top-up for salaries scheme. adroc is facilitating the programme designed to offer enhanced salaries to teachers working in deprived areas. By providing these additional ‘top-ups’, the scheme helps to ensure high quality teaching, particularly in key subjects such as Maths and English, where it is needed most.

02

Teacher Record Service (TRS) Database

We are working on the new TRS database which is designed to capture essential teacher data across the UK. The database will be crucial for understanding the qualifications and subjects that teachers hold, providing the government with valuable insights into where shortages may exist and where geographical areas are underserved in certain subjects.

This critical information enables the Government to develop incentive programmes aimed at addressing these issues.

03

Improved Workload & Wellbeing

adroc is developing a new digital program called the Workload & Wellbeing service. As teachers face increasing demands on their time and resources, this service will provide a comprehensive library of informative resources aimed at enhancing teacher wellbeing and helping schools manage their workloads more effectively.

04

Data Insights

The Data Insights programme is essential for identifying key trends and informing policy decisions. It is designed to monitor a teacher’s journey through their interactions with DfE services, which helps pinpoint trends and guides recruitment and retention policies.

Across the Teaching Workforce contract, adroc offers a broad technical partnership by providing highly skilled specialists such as Technical Architects, Technical Leads, Software Developers, DevOps and Data Analysts into key project areas.  Each specialist has extensive sector knowledge, helping to streamline digital processes, introduce innovative solutions and deliver on technical capability.

Steve Lorek, Head of Technical at adroc, explains:

“Our collaborative partnership with the DfE is extremely broad ranging. It involves consulting on what is technically feasible, collaborating with designers to ensure user experience aligns with objectives, and then the implementation of the technical capability to deliver government policy”.
